Bone Health Support for Women
Evidence‑Based Guidance to Help You Build and Protect Strong Bones
If you’ve been told you have osteopenia, are worried about osteoporosis, or simply want to be proactive about your bone health, you’re not alone. Many women are left feeling confused or unsupported once a scan is done.
This page explains how I can support you with practical, evidence‑based bone health guidance — alongside (not instead of) your medical care.
Who I Am
I’m Jackie Tarling — a qualified fitness professional with a degree in nutrition, a background in Pilates and strength training, and a personal understanding of bone health concerns.
After being placed in the osteopenia range (hips) in my 40s on a previous NHS DEXA scan, I took a proactive approach to my own bone health through targeted hiking (rather than all cycling), strength training, nutrition, and lifestyle strategies. On my follow-up DEXA scan (2017) I was informed the range was slightly improved but still in the osteopenia range. After COVID, I was informed that they would no longer carry out DEXA scans for me!
My background in nutrition and fitness has made me more curious, so I looked into the research regarding other methods of measuring bone health. Subsequently, I booked a private REMS bone scan. I'm delighted to say that it has since shown that my bone health is very good and my bones are strong.
I now support women who want clear, sensible guidance on how to look after their bones in a way that feels realistic, sustainable, and empowering.
